Short Life Advice for My Kids, A Poem by Bijal Shah

Dear kids

— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —

Life will throw plenty of challenges at you;

If you’re anxious about something,

Then you don’t need to be.

It’s the things that haven’t crossed your worried mind,

That you need to worry about.

— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —

Always look at problems,

With a fresh pair of eyes.

Always fight for your rights, values and principles

Reject unacceptable conditions.

However, remember to pick your battles.

— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —

Spend time understanding the best decisions for you.

And have the courage to make them.

Simplify the decision-making,

Don’t get distracted by irrelevant information.

And remember to always be true to yourself.

— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —

Embrace reality and accept it.

Work with it to make the best of it.

Don’t focus on how it should be.

You might miss out on learning what is truly going on.

Don’t let fear of what others think of you stand in your way.

— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —

Be open-minded, assertive and transparent.

Expect the same from others.

Don’t worry about how others perceive you.

Instead worry about achieving your goals.

For this is the only thing in your control.

— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — —

Never rule out your dreams and ambitions.

There is always a possible path to achieve them.
