A Poem by Bijal Shah

Sky-limited highs.

Dark, plunging lows.

How do I marry the two?

Joy, exhaustion, boredom.

I am left with bitter-sweet.

***********************************

Their smiles, their soft coos.

Let out whiffs of heaven scent.

Never — ending days filled

With groundhog precision

I desperately breathe to blend hell.

***********************************

A test for even the most patient person.

How did previous generations do it?

Both exist in union.

My heaven and my hell.

Without them, my world wouldn’t be.
